GOOGLE PIXEL - ATTRACT LOOP PART 01

The goal of Google Pixel 3a “Attract Loop” was to create a looping background for the new Pixel 3a phone to be used on display within stores.

The first round of “Attract Loop” was initially very experimental. Our director landed on the idea of a pinball or pachinko machine and so we got started. Together, with a very small, efficient and involved team effort, we began using the vector designs to extrude and build out each board into sections. This was done using Cinema4D. With much trial and error, we figured out how and where overlapping worked best.

Early on, we developed a uniform camera and scale to ensure once our sections pieced together and would lock into place. The balls were a combination of hand animation and cached simulation.

I was more heavily involved in the building and animation of the light blue, green and red sections of the board. The majority of the balls in those sections were hand-animated.

The most challenging aspect of this project was making sure the red section did not accidentally reveal any unwanted symbols…
